An extended break couldn’t have arrived at a better time for the Atlanta Falcons. Coming off back-to-back emotionally draining, thrilling wins against two divisional rivals, some time to reflect and assess felt right for a team with lofty expectations. The resiliency and mental fortitude to overcome setbacks and execute in make-or-break situations is a testament to how well this team has been built. While the flaws are evident in certain areas, there is no denying the star power on both sides of the ball.

The weapons they had from last year’s roster with a battle-tested, efficient quarterback makes the Falcons a certified playoff-caliber team. Kirk Cousins has started taking authority as the orchestrator of a growing offense filled with playmakers. Adding Darnell Mooney appears to be one of the top under-the-radar signings of the off-season. The timely contributions from Ray-Ray McCloud III and KhaDarel Hodge have made one of the team’s biggest personnel flaws in 2023 to one of their biggest strengths in 2024.

The Falcons are almost at a level where the fanbase is entirely behind their direction. There is understandable caution about them due to the defense’s uneven play, particularly by how they’ve consistently been overwhelmed by opposing running games. Injuries have affected the offensive line’s stability, which becomes an even greater problem when protecting an immobile quarterback.

It hasn’t all clicked in a complete performance yet, but there are encouraging signs a total team statement win is on the horizon. Beating Carolina wouldn’t be a statement, but winning convincingly would be a nice feeling for a fanbase that’s been on edge during every fourth quarter this season.
