The Seattle Seahawks (3-0) are in primetime for the first time in the 2024 NFL season. Their opponents are the Detroit Lions (2-1), reigning NFC North champions and one of the favorites to win the NFC.
Seattle has boasted an elite defense through three games under Mike Macdonald, but the strength of opposition has been underwhelming. Beating the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins without Tua Tagovailoa isn’t exactly earth-shattering stuff, but taking out the Lions would be a big deal. The problem? No Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Mafe, Leonard Williams, or Byron Murphy II. It’s a decimated defensive line against a Lions OL that is one of the best, even without All-Pro center Frank Ragnow. We’ll see if the Seahawks can cope with the dangerous running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. The Seahawks secondary will also have its hands full dealing with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, as well as star tight end Sam LaPorta.
Detroit also has some key defensive absences, including defensive end Marcus Davenport (out for the season), linebacker Derrick Barnes (IR), and potentially safety Brian Branch (illness). Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense will have everyone on the active roster available to play, including running back Kenneth Walker III. DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba could have a big day against Detroit’s secondary. Can Seattle’s offensive line stop struggling and help sustain drives more consistently? We’ll find out soon.
