Cleveland Browns reporter Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand recently questioned whether or not the Browns would actually spend the second overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft to land Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

In a mock draft posted late Wednesday night, Grossi shared a theory regarding the Browns-Sanders rumors.

Grossi suggested that the Browns want the New York Giants to trade with the Tennessee Titans to leapfrog Cleveland in the draft order so that the Giants can land Sanders. Grossi also predicted that the Browns would happily grab Miami quarterback Cam Ward at No. 2.

“[The] smokescreen of interest in Sanders works to perfection and inspires Giants trade,” Grossi wrote. He added that he feels Ward is the “top” quarterback of this year’s draft class.

For a piece published on Tuesday, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that “the Titans are believed to be considering trading” the draft’s top selection and that Cleveland is “strongly considering” taking Sanders at No. 2. Numerous draft analysts have said throughout the winter that neither Ward nor Sanders is “worth” a top-three pick, but quarterback-needy teams such as the Giants and Browns reach for players at the position just about every spring.

The Giants and Sanders have seemingly flirted with each other for months, including when the signal-caller and head coach Brian Daboll shared what’s been referred to as “a comfortable handshake” at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Giants co-owner John Mara is “not happy” with the state of the franchise and reportedly could fire both Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen if the club endures another losing season. Thus, it’s easy to believe the Giants could go all-in on getting Sanders even if that means moving up to the first pick.

Meanwhile, Browns general manager Andrew Berry insisted back in late January that he doesn’t believe Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has any problem with his son, Shedeur, featuring for the AFC North club. It remains to be seen if Berry would draft Sanders over Ward, but it also sounds like Cleveland is in no hurry to stop the Titans or any other franchise from taking either of the quarterbacks at No. 1.
