According to Tom Pelissero, the Denver Broncos have decided to waive wide receiver Josh Reynolds. He was in the process of coming off short-term injured reserve, but was held out for their game against the Cleveland Browns.
The team had until Wednesday to active him or he’d end up on season-ending injured reserve. Perhaps the team decided they’d rather just move on from the 2024 free agent signing. In five game appearances, Reynolds logged 12 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown. However, after undergoing finger surgery in early October that was only supposed to sideline him for a game, he was then shot at a strip-club that led him on an extended period on short-term IR.
A big part of the decision to waive him could have been how well the Broncos young wide receiver corps behind Courtland Sutton has come along. As Zac Stevens of DNVR noted, Devaughn Vele slid into Reynolds spot and has been a strong in that role during Reynold’s absence. The chemistry Bo Nix has developed over the last two months probably gives Sean Payton enough confidence to roll with the guys he has.
Reynolds was signed by the Broncos in March to a two-year, $9 million deal that had just $4.25 million in guaranteed money. The waiver will not hurt their cap situation long-term.
